Marketing Your Directory
There are a number of ways to market your directory, from paying for links to writing blogs. I will briefly outline here some of the marketing techniques which are commonly used.
Paid Advertisement – This can either be purchasing a text link on a website or paying to advertise your directory banner on another website. I also advice you to submit your directory to directory list websites. A directory list website is simply a list of all the directories, users often use this service to find directories and submit their website. If you submit your website on a directory list it will increase you traffic. Also try to advertise your banner on directory list websites, I have found that this method attracts a lot of user especially as they are looking for directories to submit to.
Affiliate Programs – Set up an affiliate program for your directory. This method is very useful as many use affiliate programs simply because they could benefit from the system. It is an incentive type of advertising, users will advertise for you for free and in return you give them a percentage commission in return. This will market your directory for you easily as your banner will be on many websites which will attract many users.
Web Forums – Mentioning your directory on forums is also an affective way to market your directory, but be careful to not make your post as a spam. Forums hate user who just spam forums, so join a couple of major forums and simply advertise you directory on your signature while posting on forums.
Blogs – Thousands of users every day read blogs. If you can get a blog written for you about your directory it would be an advantage. Try contacting the blog owners asking them to consider writing a blog about your directory. In return offer them a deal like you’ll list there website on your directory. Usually they will be happy to write a blog for you or they might charge you for a small fee, but be sure to only contact blog websites which relate to your directory or website content.
Articles – Writing your own article and submitting it on article websites is also great. Try writing an article related to directories, users interested in directories will be more likely read your article, but don’t forget to mention your directory on the article.
Newsletters – Contact major newsletter companies which send out newsletter to thousands of webmasters. This is a very effective marketing method. The company will charge you for advertising on their newsletters. Reason with them and come to a deal, when advertising try advertise both your directory and affiliate program. A lot of webmasters use affiliate programs, which will market your directory even more.
Following these marketing methods will expose your directory and increase your website traffic. Some of these methods will be tiring but you have to constantly stick at it if you want your directory to be number one. Also advertise your directory anywhere and everyway you can, every last ad matters.
